Millak Waterside Park: Sunset Walk in Busan

If you’re staying near Haeundae and want a relaxed evening out without spending a won, Millak Waterside Park Busan is worth the 15-minute trip. The park runs along the eastern bank of the Suyeong River (수영강, Suyeong-gang), and from the southern end you’re looking straight at Gwangan Bridge (광안대교, Gwangan Daegyo) as the sun drops behind the city. No entrance fee. No ticketing queue. Just a flat riverside path and good evening light. I walked the full stretch on a weekday evening last autumn and ended up staying well past dark.
Where Exactly Is Millak Waterside Park?
Millak Waterside Park (밀락수변공원, Millak Subyeon Gongwon) sits in Suyeong district (수영구), roughly halfway between Gwangalli Beach and Haeundae. The park follows the river for about 1.5 kilometers before the water opens toward the sea. On one side is the river; on the other, apartment blocks, a few cafés, and the occasional fried chicken place with tables spilling onto the footpath.
The name can confuse people at first. There’s also a 밀락더마켓 (Millak the Market) and the well-known 밀락회센터 (Millak Hoe Center) nearby — neither of those is the park itself. The park is the green riverbank path. Search 밀락수변공원 on Naver Map to pin the exact entrance before you leave your accommodation.
Getting to Millak Waterside Park Busan from Haeundae
By subway, it’s simple. Take Line 2 (orange line) from Haeundae station (해운대역) toward Sasang and get off at Millak station (밀락역), Exit 3. Walk south for about 8 minutes and you’ll reach the river path. Subway time from Haeundae: around 10 minutes, three stops.
If you’re still getting comfortable with the subway system, the Busan subway and T-money guide covers how to load your card and read the line maps. You can also reach the park on foot from Gwangalli Beach — the path starts right at the river mouth, so just follow the water north and you’re on it within minutes.
Driving is possible but not worth it. Street parking near the park fills up on weekends and the side roads are narrow. The subway is cleaner.
What to Expect Along the Walk
The path is flat, wide, and well-maintained. On a typical weekday evening you’ll see locals jogging, riding rental bikes (stations are dotted along the path), walking dogs, or sitting on benches with a 편의점 (pyeonuijeom, convenience store) coffee. It doesn’t feel like a tourist spot — because it mostly isn’t one. This is where people from the surrounding neighborhoods come to decompress after work.
The full path is about 1.5km one way. At a slow, stopping-to-look pace, the out-and-back takes around 45 minutes to an hour — not counting however long you end up standing by the water. Paved and level the whole way; strollers handle it without any trouble. And the lighting comes on after dark, so the return walk isn’t an issue even if you stay late.
The southern section of the park is noticeably quieter than the northern end near the station. If you want space and fewer cyclists passing close, head south first and work your way back.
Best Spots for the Sunset at Millak Waterside Park Busan
Walk toward the southern end of the park. Around the 700-meter mark from the Millak station entrance, the river widens and Gwangan Bridge fills the view ahead of you. That’s where you want to be when the light fades.
Two spots worth knowing:
- The wooden observation decks near the southern stretch — slightly elevated, clean sightline over the water, and rarely crowded even on weekends
- The open grass area where the park ends at the Gwangalli side — more room to sit, and the bridge is directly in front of you with nothing in the way
Sunset times shift significantly by season. Summer (June–August): around 7:30–8:00pm. Autumn and winter: as early as 5:30pm. Check your weather app before heading out — hazy days flatten the colors completely, and the view genuinely isn’t worth rushing for on those evenings.
One thing I didn’t expect the first time: the bridge lights up after dark, and the reflection in the river on a calm night is cleaner and more interesting than the sunset itself. Staying until 8:30–9:00pm is not a waste of an evening.
What to Do Near the Park
After the walk, there are a few easy options within 10 minutes.
밀락회센터 (Millak Hoe Center)
Address: 부산 수영구 광남로 20 (20 Gwangnam-ro, Suyeong-gu)
This multi-floor building is one of Busan’s best-known spots for 회 (hoe, raw fish). You choose your fish from vendors on the lower floors and eat upstairs at communal tables. As of late 2025, a spread for two generally runs 30,000–50,000 won depending on what you order — prices can shift, so treat that as a rough guide. The vendors are used to foreign visitors; pointing and holding up fingers works fine if your Korean isn’t there yet. Worth knowing: on weekend evenings the place gets packed, and if communal seating with strangers isn’t your thing, a weekday visit is a noticeably more comfortable experience. Find it on Naver Map.
If you’re not in the mood for a sit-down meal, CU and GS25 convenience stores sit along the park path. Picking up a 맥주 (maekju, beer) and taking it to a bench by the river is a completely valid way to end the evening — locals do it constantly.
Practical Tips
- Best arrival time: 30–45 minutes before sunset gives you enough time to walk south before the light changes
- What to bring: A light jacket in spring and autumn — the river breeze drops the temperature fast once the sun is gone
- Toilets: Available at both the northern and southern ends of the park, clean and free
- Weekdays vs weekends: Weekend afternoons bring families and more cyclists; weekday evenings are quieter and easier to walk at your own pace
- Entry fee: Free, always
- Navigation: If you’re new to getting around Busan, the Naver Map in English guide will save you a lot of confusion when planning routes from your hotel
Details here are accurate as of a recent visit — but small things like bike rental stations and facility locations do occasionally change, so it’s worth a quick check if you’re arriving well after this was written.
